Smart Growth Greater Madison is proud to offer a wide range of services for real estate development professionals. Our broad range of experience enables us to tailor our services to meet your specific needs.
Activism
Our organization represents the position of the development community at the state and local government level. Our staff works directly with elected officials in Dane County municipalities on a wide range of issues including Tax Incremental Finance, Inclusionary Zoning, Big Box ordinances, Sustainable Building, and Zoning Codes. We promote vibrant and intelligent development, as reflected in innovative design, increased urban density and mass transit opportunities. It is the mission of SGGM to work with decision makers on these issues as they work their way through the local government process. It is through activism on behalf of developers and affiliated industries that SGGM works both proactively and preventatively as the issue necessitates.
Education
Keeping members up to date on the various proposals and initiatives in Dane County and its municipalities is critical to the mission of SGGM. We work to keep our members informed about changes to current law and new proposals a well as providing summaries of overarching policy considerations. Members interested in particular topics are encouraged to ask for more in-depth research and information based on the individual considerations and needs of their company.
Outreach
Development in a community impacts residents and neighborhoods, as well as the industries that conceptualize and create the development. SGGM recognizes this and has begun a series of outreach programs for both the neighborhoods and the development community. We have partnered with the City of Madison for “Developer Financing Fundamentals” round tables for neighborhoods. This series helps educate participants on what the numbers actually mean when a developer proposes a project, but in a hypothetical situation, thereby allowing for discussion without attachment to a current project.
Smart Growth also hosts period seminars on timely topics for the development community as a whole and opportunities for members to meet with elected officials as a group to discuss concerns and ideas about current or pending proposals.
